LONG UMBRELLAS
THE CRITICAL MOMENT A variation noticed at the latest Royal garden party was the dearth of tho long gloves of all shades usually associated with the Royal garden party. This year almost every dress had long, tight sleeves. The umbrellas were noticeable for their size and serviceable appearance. Almost every woman brought one and used it as a walking stick. There was hardly a “ stumpy ” umbrella to be seen. Just at the critical moment, as the King and Queen, followed by other members of the Royal Family, reached tho Delhi canopy, the sun shone out brilliantly, although not long before a few drops of rain and heavy clouds had threatened the afternoon’s enjoyment. The Queen was all in blue, a perfect ensemble of dross, hat, and sunshade, worn with a gold brocade coat and a very charming picture she made as she smiled her welcome to the vast gathering of guests. Blue was, in fact, the predominant colour of tho day.
