Each Saturday a recipe or hint will be published in this space, specially recommended by the Homo Science Extension Bureau Service. A nutritious and satisfying main dish—a substitute for the meat course. BOSTON BAKED BEANS Haricot beans, 4 cups. Fat salt pork, |lb. Salt, 1 tablespoonful. Golden syrup, 2 tablespoonfuls. Sugar, 4 tablespoonfuls. Boiling water, 1 cup. Alustard may be used if desired —1 tablespoonful. Afethod: Pick over, wash, and soak the beans overnight. In morning drain, cover with fresh water, heat slowly (keeping water below the boiling point), and cook until the skins will burst. Drain the beans, reserving the water for soup. Scald the rind of the pork, scrape, and remove i-in slice, and put in the bottom of the bean pot. A casserole will serve as a bean pot. Cut through rind of remaining pork over -Jin, making cuts lin deep. Put beans in pot, and bury pork in beans, leaving rind exposed. Alix salt, golden syrup, and sugar; add one cup boiling water to this, and pour over the beans. Then add enough more water to cover the beans. Cover bean pot, put in the oven and bake slowly six to eight hours, tincovering the last hour of cooking that the rind may become crisp and brown. Add water as needed. Alany feel sure that by adding with seasonings one tablespoonfnl of mustard the beans are more easily digested. MORNING TEA PARTY IS AN INNOVATION From the Ottawa .‘Evening Citizen ’ we take the followingAn unusual event in Ottawa is a morning tea party, but Airs G. W. Reid, of Dunedin, New Zealand, who is with the delegation to the Imperial Economic Conference, was hostess this morning at tea, which she held on the terrace at the Chateau Laurier. The guests were delightfully entertained by their hostess, who had on view a collection of wonderful views from New Zealand. The guests included Mrs Alurray AlacLaren, Aliss Alargaret MacLaren, Aliss Downio Stewart, Alls Lynn W. Aloekins, Airs J. J. Allen, Airs Stevenson, Airs Harold Fisher, and Airs French.
