CELEBRATIONS IN AMERICA UNUSUALLY "SAFE AND SANE" Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, July 4. The anniversary of tho signing of the Declaration of Independence was celebrated throughout America to-day with traditional parades and patriotic ceremonies. The celebrations, according to an early survey, were unusually' “ safe and sane,” only eighty-nine deaths having been reported so far, compared with 354 last year. The majority of the' deaths were due to motor accidents and drownings. There were relatively few casualties from fireworks. For example, in New York there were about 600 cases of burns, bub no one was killed. In 1931 1,000 people were injured in this way, and two were killed. One man was shot and killed in a fracas in New York between Fascists and autiFascists at the Garibaldi memorial exercises. 210 DEATHS. NEW YORK, July 5. (Received July 6, at 9 a.m.) Two hundred and forty' lives were lost iu the celebration of Independence Day, about half of last year’s 1011. Automobile accidents _ accounted for 111, drownings for eighty-one, and fireworks ten.
