NEW REST ROOMS IN CHRISTCHURCH
■The new rest rooms in Cathedral square, erected by the Christchurch City Council for the convenience ot women and children, wore visited by several hundreds of people all day Friday and in the evening. In all cases the comments were most favourable, some people expressing the opinion that tho building was too good fpr the purpose. From 9 a.m. onwards there was a continuous line of visitors, and groups were shown over in. turn by the caretaker, whose duty it is to attend to the lift and heating appliances, and his wife, who is in charge of the creche. On Monday, the transfer of the present parcels office and staff took place. As soon as they are established the rest rooms will be in full working order. The date of the official opening ceremony has not been fixed definitely, but Cr J. W. Beanland. chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council, stated last night that it would take place about the middle of next week. It is stated that the ceremony will not be on a large scale, owing to the difficulty of finding accommodation for tho general public in largo numbers in that part of Cathedral square, hut tho reason for opening for business on Monday is so that the rest rooms will be in full operation by the time the official opening ceremony is performed.
