NURSE ARRESTED
CHARGE CF ADMINISTERING POISON A REMAND GRANTED [Psr United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 6. Mrs Elspcth Kerr, aged forty-five, a nurse, was arrested by detectives at her home in Devonport last evening, and charged in the Police Court this morning that on April 16, with intent to injure, she administered a poison to Dorothy Betty Cameron. The police obtained a remand till July 11. When bail was sought, the Magistrate asked for the facts of the case.
Detective-sergeant Kelly said the girl Cameron was a child of eight years. She was removed from the accused’s house to the Auckland Hospital and examined by doctors. Subsequently traces of poisoning were found. Kerr visited the child later, and after she (Kerr) had left the ward, the child became suddenly ill. On 'further examination poisoning was definitely detected. The child bad been committed to the care of the Child Welfare Department. The Magistrate: Under those circumstances 1 will not take the responsibility of allowing bail.
