ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last evening in the Kaikorai School, Mr P. L. Ritchie presiding over a good attendance of members. Mr A. Ellis referred to the danger of flooding in the neighbourhood of the Kaikorai Stream, and suggested that the banks should bo widened throughout the stream’s course through the district. If this were done he thought that all future danger of floodiug would be obviated. A satisfactory job had been done by the City Corporation near the Roslyn tram terminus, where the banks had been widened for a distance of about one chain.—lt was decided to ask the City Council to complete the work, which, it was remarked, would provide employment for a large number of men for a considerable time. , Reference was made by a member to the footpath loading from the top of .Duneau street to the Roslyn cable car junction. Motor cars were now using this path ns a,short cut, and pedestrians were being put to some inconvenience. He suggested that the City Council should be asked to erect strong posts in the centre of the path at the lower end, and it was decided to adopt the suggestion. It was also decided to ask the council to repair the centre of the path, which was in had order. Mr J. Moir said that a telephone box bad been asked for by residents of Dunottar. The distance from the box at Maori Hill to that at Roslyn was about a mile, and the convenience •of a more centrally-situated telephone was very much desired.—lt was decided to ask the Post and Telegraph Department to install a telephone box somewhere near Claremont street. The Chairman reported that the association’s efforts to secure a public convenience in Roslyn bad been advanced a stage further, and he hoped to he able to report even more satisfactory progress at the next meeting.
