MACANDREW ROAD
WIDENING A SCHOOL FRONTAGE TWO GIFTS OF LAND The matter of widening Maeandrew road at the public school has been under consideration for some considerable time by tho City Council’s "Works Committee. It was assumed that the necessary land required to effect tho alteration was the property of the Education Board, but it was eventually discovered that the fee simple of portion of it, a strip about 10ft in width and containing some fourteen poles in area, was in the name of Messrs N. and E. B. Paterson Ltd. This firm was approached in the matter, and the committee is now able to report that the land in question has been donated free of any compensation. A letter- otf thanks has been sent to Messrs N. and E. S. Paterson Ltd. for their gift. This land, together with a further strip about 3ft Sin in width, which the Education Board is also dedicating free for tho same purpose, will enable Maeandrew road to bo widened along the whole of the frontage to the school property in keeping with the alignment of the street on both sides of the school. The estimated cost of tho necessary alterations, including the formation of a screenings footway, metalling, carriageway, and erecting a suitable fence is £263, and the city engineer has been instructed to have the work started as soon as possible.
