The Prime Minister (Hon. G. W. Forbes) returned to Wellington from his home at Cheviot yesterday. He attended the match between the All Black team and Wellington at Athletic Park in the afternoon,, and in the evening presided at a lengthy meeting of Cabinet. He left for Palmerston North this afternoon, and will be entertained this evening by the National Dairy Show authorities. Mr Forbes will deliver an important policy speech during the function. A Palmerston North Press Association telegram states that the degree of doctor of science was conferred yesterday on Dr G. H. Cunningham, D.Ph., mycologist at the plant research station, by Professor T. A. Hunter, vice-chan-cellor of the University of New Zealand.Professor Hunter stated that Dr Cunningham had brought distinction to the whole University of New Zealand by his contributions to the subject of mycology. His work had a world-wide reputation.

Members of the Otago Education Board’s workshop and outdoor stall met Mr Rodger, the retiring architect, on Saturday morning. Mr Christensen, foreman, in presenting Air Rodger with, a silver-mounted umbrella, referred to the esteem in which he was held by the men and to the good relations which had always existed between them. The death occurred at Levin last night following a heart seizure of Me Charles Blenkhorn, aged sixty-two, solicitor, who had been Mayor of Levin for the past three years, and who served a previous term of four years during the war and the epidemic period. He was also a member of the Horowhenua Power Board, the Foxton Harbour Board, and held many other public offices. He served in the South African War. The deceased leaves a wife and family of eight children.— Press Association.

Mr A. W. Anderson, foreman of the nursery at the Dunedin Botanic Gardens, has been appointed curator of the Park Gardens at Timaru, Mr Anderson, who has been working here for six years, is the fifth of Mr D. Tannock’s men to be placed in charge of gardens in other towns. This is surely something of a record, Ex-Dunedin men are now in control in Christchurch, Invercargill, Oamaru, Waimate, and Timaru.Sir Charles Statham left this morning for Wellington on business that concerns his electorate.

The Rev. Lionel Fletcher had a musical send-off on the railway station this morning as he entrained for Wellington to embark on the Marama for Sydney.After his visit to the capital of New South Wales he intends to proceed to England. Mr P. A. De la Perrelle came to Dunedin yesterday, and left with his wife for Sydney to-day. Mr C. E. Barnes, railways commercial agent, called to Wellington on duty, left by the 11.35 train this morning. Professor F. Webb, if Christchurch, arrived in Dunedin by the express from the south this morning, and will proceed north in the morning. Mr T. R. Thomson said good-bye to Dunedin this morning, and is now on his way to an 1 island near New Guinea in connection with a raining venture. Captain A. S. Dalgleish left Dunedin this morning for Sydney. Mr John Richardson and Mr and Mrs D. P. Wilson went away to-day for a trip to Melbourne. Mr James Goodger (of Cromwell) and his wife, booked for Sydney, left Dunedin this morning.

Mr W. B. Seymour, factory manager for the K. and P. Company, is travelling to Sydney, and was farewolled on the station this morning.
