MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting ot the Otago Kducation Board was continued this morning, Mr James Wallace presiding. RESIGNATIONS. The following resignations were received:—A. Moore, assistant, Tuapeka Mouth. SCHOOL ATTENDANCES. The attendance returns for the first term showed that at the end of the term there were 244 schools in operation in the district. The schools at Elderslie and Stony Creek and the secondary department of the Normal School were closed, GENERAL.

The teacher at Otakia asked for the renovation of the residence. The architect reported that certain rooms required renovating, and that some minor repairs are necessary. The total cost would bo about £ls 10s.—The work is to bo carried out.

The Architect (Air Welsh) reported that the Oamani stone work the memorial gates at North-east \ alley was deteriorating very rapidly. He recommended an immediate treatment with a stone preservative at a cost of £3.— The architect to submit a further report. The Teacher at Oturehiia wrote regarding the difficulty of working the school with one room. The roll number was now 47.—The department is to be approached. A letter was received from Air Costello and others objecting to the committee which is functioning at Otokia on the grounds that at the householders' meeting there were only two householders nominated. —Air Costello is to be advised that three were nominated and elected, and as they constituted r, quorum they were entitled to fill the vacancies. Air W. A. Bodkin, M.P., forwarded

a petition signed by residents of Aloa Flat. Edievale, and Dunrobin districts asking that a consolidated school be established there.—The matter will be
