BURNS CLUB
The monthly meeting of the Burns Club, held in the Early Settlers’ Hall last evening, was more than usually enjoyable owing to the fact that the proceedings were of a less formal nature, taking the form as much of a social gathering as of a concert. After expressing pleasure at seeing so many present, the President (Mr \\ . M’Kinlay) referred to the loss the chib had suffered through the resignation of its official piper, Mr W. Budge, who had been appointed pipe-major of the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band. On behalf of the club he congratulated Piper Budge on his appointment, and extended a hearty welcome to his successor. Piper G. Crichton. Following the president's remarks the following entertaining programme of vocal, elocutionary, and instrumental items was presented;—Songs—Miss D. Sligo, Miss-C. Weir, and Mr S. Taylor: duet, Mr and Mrs E. Mee; recitation, Miss X. Warren; violin solo. Miss Eva Judd; national reel—Misses D. O’Sullivan. May Wilson, Babs Saul, and N. Pullar. The choir, under the baton of Mr F. C. Cooper, rendered the part songs ‘ Border Ballad ’ and ‘ Ilka Blade o’ Grass ’ tastefully and with admirable balance. Miss K. Wright was the accompanist. At the conclusion of the programme the meeting resolved itself into a social gathering, and after supper two pleasant liours were spent in social intercourse and dancing.
