VALUELESS CHEQUE
RAILWAY CLERK VICTIMISED [Special to the ‘ Stae.'J AUCKLAND, June 16. Walter Phillip Hailes was sentenced to six months to-day by Mr Hunt S.M., who said the probation officer’s report was unsatisfactory. Hailes cashed a valueless cheque for £3O for a first fare from Auckland to Invercargill, getting nearly £25 in change. Counsel remarked that Hailes was a pretty sick man. Detective-sergeant Kelly; Not ns sick as his friend, the railway clerk, who has to refund £24 17s.
