NOTED INDUSTRIALIST

SIR LENHAN RAWS, OF MELBOURNE BRIEF VISIT TO DUNEDIH Sir Leunaii Raws, described recently by a leading Australian paper as being in the forefront of Commonwealth industrialists, has been on a short visit to Dunedin, and left for Thnaru by car this morning. Although Sir Lennan has made several visits to Now Zealand this was his first to Dunedin, and before he left ho expressed his intention of returning at the earliest possibility to spend a longer time in Otago. He comes from Melbourne, and ho said the South Island suffered by having no direct steamer communication with Australia. He was sure greater numbers of tourists would visit the South Island if the present steamer routes did not make the south so far out of the way. As Australian and New Zealand representative of Imperial Chemical Industries, Sir Lennan is making a business tour of New Zealand, and yesterday afternoon he visited the Dominion Fertiliser Company’s works at Ilavensbourno. The industrialist was greatly impressed with the plant, which was the most, modern ho had inspected in New Zealand or the Commonwealth. An advantage of the Ravensbourno works, ho said, was that they had been laid out to provide for adequate extension at any time. Sir Lennan said he was pleased with the spirit in which the Now Zealanders were tackling their problems. The spirit would carry the dominion through. Australia was showing signs of a recovery. The trouble now was how to deal with Now South Wales. When that State’s problems were cleared up Australia would definitely improve. Sir Lennan Raws was accompanied north by Mr George Hofford (advisory officer to Imperial Chemical Industries), Mr 11. D. Kerr, and Mr S. ?. Cameron (general manager of the Dominion Fertiliser Company). He sails on his return to Australia by tho Niagara ,on May 17.
