CLUTHA FARMERS' UNION

ANNUAL MEETING (From Ook Own Correspondent.] Tho annual meeting of the Clutha Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the County Chambers, Balclutha, on Saturday night. The chairman (Mr J. A. Johnston), in presenting tho annual report and balancesheet, said that financially the year could hardly he said to have been successful, but from the point of view of work done, had maintained a good standard. The following is the financial statement:—Receipts; Credit at beginning of year, £27 10s lid; capitation, £lO 10s; subscriptions, £2; total, £4O 0s lid. Expenditure: Advertising, £10; social, £l2 16s 9d; sundry, £3 19s; total, £32 8s fid; credit balance remaining, £7 12s 2d. Tho statement was formally adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Chairman, Mr A. Jensen; vice-presi-dents, Messrs Allan Christie and Alex. Renton; secretary and treasurer, Mr James Wood (re-elected) ; committee— Messrs W. S. Thomson and J. A. Johnston, and the above officers; conference delegates, Messrs Renton and Johnston. Throe nominations were received for two seats-on the Provincial Executive, Messrs A. Craig and F. Waite (sitting members) and J. A. Johnston. It was decided to send a remit to tho provincial conference urging that Mr J. Christie, Warepa, ho appointed a life member of the Provincial Council, in recognition of his services to tho Farmers’ Union over a long period of years.
