SWIMMING
INTERPROVINGIAL POLO MATCH . SOUTHLAND TEAM Advice has been received that the Southland representative team to meet Otago in the interprovincial water polo match at the carnival being staged by the Otago Centre and University Swimming Club at the Municipal Baths on Saturday night, will be chosen from the following (one to drop out) : —P. H. M'Grath, J. A. Murdoch. V. Grenfell, J. B. Doake, M. A. Hurt, J. Hastie, W. R. Mahon, and A. J. Kingsland. Among the twenty Southland swimmers who have entered are several well known champion performers, including P. H. M'Grath (who was the New Zealand intermediate _ champion last year, and was second in the New Zealand 220yds free stylo and back stroke championships this year), Miss E. Jones (the promising swimmer who performed well at Ashburton last year), J. Mac Gibbon (Southland men’s champion), and Miss N. Basstian (the versatile Southland ladies’ champion). In addition to tiro usual interclub events, the University Club is arranging a number of handicaps, and the interfaculty relay championship for the h’ogg Cub is to bo decided. A challenge relay will bo between Knox College and Selwyn College. The Southland team for tho relay with Otago has not yet been finally selected.
