OF INTEREST TO LISTENERS

Probably few have realised that the broadcasting of the "War Memorial carillon from Wellington by 2YA at its official opening on Anzac Day jnarked an interesting development in radio broadcasting in New Zealand. There are not many stations in the world that can claim to having relayed the bell tones to the transmitter, for the simple reason that carillons are not erected in every city, so Wellington s broadcast last Monday was unique in the history of wireless not only in this country but in many others. To capture the full tone of the bells on this occasion required special efforts, which, judging by reports from all parts of the dominion, were completely successful. • * • * The suggestion before the Advisory Council to the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Board that once a week a certain length of time be reserved by the four A.stations for the broadcasting of anything that may be arranged at the last minute is being favourably commented upon in this town at least. In tho making up of their programmes weeks ahead the programme organisers at the stations would leave a blank in the concert for any given evening every week to allow anything of public interest being transmitted at the shortest notice. • * * • Listeners are reporting good reception of American stations just now. Most of them can bo heard as early as 5 o’clock in the evening, and any one station can be picked up with a degree of regularity. The following is a list of most of the higher powered stations across the Pacific, and because the stations are placed in the order of their frequencies this may be of some help 'to listeners when searching tho ether for the Americans:—
