LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

BRUCE (From Oob Own Correspondent.] Five of the retiring members of the Bruce County Council have been returned unopposed: Messrs Adam King, Jasper Clark, David Gardyne, John Boylen, and Alex. Renton. Contests will take place in the other four ridings, the contested ridings being Toko (five candidates: D. M'Gregor, James Lockhart, John Allison, Wm. lunch, and T. H. Bussell); Balmoral No. 1 (Victor Wilson and John Cross); Mount Stuart (W. T. Sheat. J. A. Marshall, and Wm. Allison); and Waihola (Wm. Moore, jun., and J. G. Somerville). Mr T. H. Russell will also endeavour to gair a seat on the South Otago Hospital Board, the retiring members, wno are all seeking re-elec-tion, being Messrs J. Clark, Adam King, and D. M'Gregor. For two scats on the Otago Electric Power Board three candidates are standing; Messrs D. Boyd and H. M. Driver (retiring members), and R. H. Michelle, Mr H. M. Driver will be opposed by Mr R. S. Thompson for the position of member for the Bruce, Clutha, Tuapeka, Maniototo seat on the Otago Harbour Board. CLUTHA Eight of the ten retiring members of the Clutha County Council were returned unopposed: Messrs Thos. Maginness, Adam Harris, Arthur King, David Jack, W. J. M'Kenzie, W. S. Thomson, Geo. Wilson, and Jas. Cummings. In the Maclennan riding Mr H. A. Brough will be opposed by Mr Claude G, Martin, and in the Pomahaka riding Messrs Robert Brown and William MTndoe will contest the seat. The retiring member, Mr Robert M'lndoe, after twelve years’ sendee, did not seek re-election. Mr A. E. Russell was returned unopposed to the Otago Electric Power Board. On the South Otago Hospital Board five candidates (the required number) were nominated: Messrs W. J. M'Kenzie, H. A. Brough, W. S. Thomson, John Christie (retiring members) and William Sutherland, who fills the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Edward King, of Clydevale.
