MANAWATU RACES. TRAINING NOTES. [Pi. Unitbd Press. Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, April 19. The weather was , dull for training operations at Awapuni this morning, wnen a fair amount of fast work was undertaken before breakfast. Orby’s Choice jumped away on the plough from in front of the three furlongs post to run the last two in 2osec. Great Star ran half a mile outside the course B*r in 53]sec. Grand Review fula similar task, but was not timed. Autopay and Weathorstep did a good working gallop. Omeo and Pangolin ran six furlongs on the plough at a steady pace. After breakfast there was fast work on the course proper (unless otherwise stated). Headland and Goy jumped away from the, six furlongs post to run the first throe in 40sec, and the full distance in Imin 22 l-sseo, Goy having the advantage. There was little between Merry Hunter and Pass On in a close three furlongs sprint run in 38sec. Saltpot and Freeze went half a mile in 54sec, the former being well clear at the post. The two-year-old gave a disappointing display. King Colossus, whoso off hind leg was Mistered, had The Mirror as a partner over seven furlongs. They ran the first half in 54 3-ssec and the seven in Imin 34 3-ssec. Moutoa Treasury jumped away alone in a sis furlongs’ run, the last five in Imin Bsec. Fleeting Glance and Porlock finished on terms at the end of half a mile in 52 4-ssec. Winsome t Hind ran away from Gay Crest' in the early stages of six furlongs, but the cup candidate closed up the gap in the run home, although the former was a length clear at the post after running the distance in Imin 21sec.

Gawwyn showed a lot of early speed oVer a seven-furlong gallop with Patearoa and Decree Nisi, and was still clear at the post. The first half-mile was ran in 54sec and the full distance in Imin 34 3-ssec. Tout Lo Mond drew away from Senegal at the end of half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Ganpat was going quite as well as High Comedy at the close of five furlongs run in the smart time of Imin 5 2-ssec, the first three in 39sec.

Speedniiul, alone, ran the first three furlongs in 50sec and six in Imin 21 2-ssec. As he does not work well alone it was a satisfactory effort. Seneschal had half a length advantage of Riotous in a close six furlongs in Imin 21 1-5 sec. Lady Quex, unaccompanied, slipped over half a mile in 52 2-sseo, doing her task nicely. Gibraltar and Easter Time ran six furlongs on the plough in Imin 18sec, after leaving the first three behind in 38 2-ssec. Easier Time moved freely and is apparently not affected by the kick he received at Masterton. >

Cape Town and Foghorn jumped away together from the six furlongs post on the plough, but the latter retired after a couple of furlongs, Cape Town going on to complete her task in Imin 20sec,

Additional scratchings announced are:—Grand Jury, in the Prince of AVales Handicap; Alpinist, Thornproof, and Araios, for all engagements; Princess Bell, for.,the Sires’ Produce Stakes and Manawatu Stakes. There is every indication that the weather will hold, and the track should bo in splendid order. If the track conditions remain unaltered Great Star will start in the Prince of Wales Handicap,
