GEORGE STREET SCHOOL

MR R. FERGUSON'S RETIREMENT 'At last night’s meeting of the George Street School Committee the following • motion was unanimously earned:—“After, over thirty years of service, Mr Robert Ferguson has intimated his intention of retiring from the committee. For these long number of years ho has been a very active member and has taken his full share of the work. He has been chairman and secretary respectively on several occasions, and has undertaken the agency of the hall during the greater part- of his term. Only those who have been intimately connected with the school have a knowledge of the energy and pluck which Mr Ferguson displayed over the remodelling and furnishing of the school as we now know it. Most of us know of the whole-hearted and energetic way in which he has carried out his onerous duties as hall agent for the whole period in which the hall has been in existence—over twenty-five years. In all the duties of a school committeemen Mr Ferguson has shown intelligence and keenness, and ho will be much missed by his fellow-com-mitteemen. We place on record our appreciation of the work he has done so willingly, and so well, and we hope and trust he may be long spared to take an interest’ in the work that is carried on in the George Street School.” It was decided that the resolution he entered in the minutes of the school records.

The secretary of tho School Committees’ Association forwarded tho following resolution:—“lt was with feelings of regret that the members of the executive of the association heard of the retirement of Mr Ferguson from school committee labours. He has .walked hard .and for a logg period for

tho George Street School, and has at all times won and held the esteem of his fellow-committeemen and those he came in contact with in school labours. Though not actively connected with the association of latter year’s, he was a regular attender in tho past years while a member of tho association, and was at one time its president. Wo wish him many future years of good health to enjoy his retirement from active school labours,!!
