ATTEMPT ON RECORD
FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA SGOn AT LYMPNE Press Association-—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 18. (Received April 19, at 1.30 p.m.) The airman, Scott, interviewed at Lympne, said the weather forecast was that conditions would bo definitely good off Australia shortly. He said : —“ I do not want to start too early in the morning or get too far south before dawn, then I will have three days’ good moon, which is a great help. I am using the same machine as I flew from Australia last year. I will carry 100 gallons of petrol, which will give a range of 1,700 miles.” Asked if he would keep his bargain with Mollison, he said: “Certainly. I had a message from Jimmy to-day wishing me the best of luck.”
Scott intends to try to beat Butler’s record to Port Darwin in eight days. [A previous message stated; —Two famous airmen made a bargain at Lympne that each would break a big flying record and return to London, meet, and celebrate by a dinner for two. They are Scott and Mollison, who are waiting for favourable weather to start, the former to Australia and the latter to the Cape.]
