They have also decided to hold euchre parties and dances weekly to raise funds for necessitous cases in their ranks. MAYOR'S RELIEF DEPOT
Assistance was given at the mayor’s relief depot in St. Andrew street last week to no fewer than 1,400 men, this number including not only those who were having their stand-down week, but also those who lost time on relief work owing to intimidation and other methods which were adopted to secure support for the “ strike ” affecting those employed on the No. 5 scheme. Yesterday men from Green Island and other outlying districts received supplies of food, and to-day parcels were sent to Mosgiel for distribution to those in need. The depot will be open to-morrow and on Friday in order to meet the requirements of local men on their stand-down week. The depot has now a big district to supply, and an appeal is made for supplies, particularly of vegetables, from the country.
DONATIONS
The Rev. Bryan King wishes to acknowledge, with thanks, generous donations of groceries from Wardell and Co., vegetables from Reilly and Co., and bread from Messrs J. R. Brown, Laurenson, and Wootton, for distribution at the Mission House.
