PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee was held in the Plunket office yesterday. Present —Mrs Johnstone (in the chair), Lady Allen, Mcsdames Jos. M'George, Cunningbame, G. Gallaway, Brown, Mandeno, Barnett, Black, Reid, Cox, Williams, Cleghorn, Watson, J. C. M'George, Speight, and. Hanan, and Miss V. Reid. The members of committee expressed their appreciation of the kindly action of the sisters and nurses in papering two rooms at the Karitane-Harris Hospital free of cost to the society. They also expressed appreciation of the gift from the Plunket trainees of the December, 1931-April, 1932, term of two vita glass windows for the weakling ward, and of a monetary donation from the trainees of the previous term to be devoted to the purchasing of some requirement for tho Karitane-Harris Hospital. The committee passed a vote of sympathy with Mrs Arundel, a representa; tive on the committee of the Taieri sub-branch, in her recent illness. It was arranged that the president (or deputy), a member of the executive, and Mesdames Cleghorn and Watson should constitute the visiting committte for the Karitane-Harris Hospital on Wednesday, April 27, at 2.30 p.m., and that Mesdames Mandeno and Sandford Cox should be associated with the president (or deputy) and a member or the executive as the visiting committee on Thursday, May 19, at 11 a.m. The Matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital, Anderson’s Bay, reported as follows for the month of March:— Patients admitted—mothers ten, babies fifteen; patients discharged—mothers twelve, babies twenty-two; largest number in residence on any one day—mothers five, babies twenty-three. Patients ware admitted from Mosgiel, Seacliff, Lawrence, and Dunedin and suburbs. Visitors for the month numbered 360, and included in this number were Mr and Mrs Leslie Harris, of London, who visited us on the afternoon of Saturday, March 19. The day was beautifully fine, and they were delighted with the appearance of the hospital and gardens, and Mrs Harris was most interested in the extension of the raothercraft section, also in the nurses’ home. The Karitnne nurses’ examination was held on March 29 and 30, the following being the candidate,: —Nurses M. J. Puffett, S. G. Paterson, L. M. Carson, and M. Champion. The Plunket nurses’ examination was held on March 31 and April 1, the following being the candidates: —Nurses D. M. Barker, E. E. Spaul, R. Allen E. M. Upham, E. M. Harris, I. M. Fairweather, O. M. Buscke, 0. Alloway, G. M. Johnstone, A. H. Wilson, J. S. Livingstone, M. O. Ford, G. Tolerton, E. Mineham, M. A. Jackson, P. E. Clifford, F. Hodges, J. E. Mackay, G. M. Oliver, H. Cooper. The Plunket nurses for the North and Central Dunedin districts reported for the month:—Babies on the list, I, older children on the list, 299; new cases for the month (babies only), 31; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases, 27; visits to homes, 509; visits to rooms—Stuart street, mothers 300, babies 215, older children 71; Roslyn—mothers 108, babies 100, older children 17; Mornington—mothers 126, babies 106, older children 32; North-east Valley—mothers 109, babies 95, older children 33; KelseyYaralla Kindergarten—mothers 60, babies 54, older children 17; Macandrew Bay—mothers 38, babies 37, older children 6. Bottles of humanised milk sent out from Taieri and Peninsula Dairy, 1,504.
