MURDER MYSTERY

THE BURWOOD OUTRAGE SECOND BODY FOUND Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 13. The battered body of Dorothy Denzel was lifted from its shallow grave in the bush three miles from Liverpool today. The police had kept a vigil overnight, the object being to allow experts to obtain, by daylight, all the available evidence that was likely to afford clues to the murderer. It was quickly evident that the girl had met the same terrible fate as her male companion, Wilkinson, with whom she went for a motor ride last Tuesday week. The girl’s features were practically obliterated, she having been shot at close range with a shotgun. It is regarded as possible that she was also outraged before death. The body was practically naked, except for a woollen pullover, and a piece of the girl’s dress was drawn tightly round her neck. The remainder of her clothing was missing. As in the case of Wilkinson, her hands were tied behind her back with strips

of rug. The police are of the opinion that the girl was brutally murdered within 10ft of her grave, bloodstains indicating the position where she fell. As a result of heavy rain since the crime Was committed all footprints have been obliterated. One of the girl’s shoes was found in the grave and one of her stockings on tho way leading to the grave, 20ft from the spot. The police found pellets of shot and portions of a human skull, and these and other grim relics were gathered by the police to assist them in tracing the murderer. The motive for the crime is a complete mystery, and the only theory is that the person or persons responsible wanted to steal the car, which was & sporting Alvis, that Wilkinson put up a fight and was rendered unconscious and killed, and that the j|irl was gagged, outraged, and finally killed in order that the perpetrators might escape all possibility of identification.

COMMUNITY STIRRED POLICE HAVE VALUABLE CLUES. SYDNEY, April 13. The community is thoroughly stirred, and many citizens declare that the murderer deserves lynching. The detectives possess most valuable evidence, not the least important being the discovery of a. shotgun in a Burwood home, the owner of yvhich is now being sought. The detectives are as certain of the identity of the murderer as they were that the young couple had been slain in the hills surrounding the Anzae rifle range at Liverpool. The district is being searched''diligently in the hope that the slayer is hiding. Wilkinson’s funeral, which was held to-day, was most impressive, thousands gathering to witness it. Miss Denzel’s body will be interred to-morrow alongside Wilkinson’s, under an arrangement between the parents. Medical evidence reveals that Miss Denzel had not been violated. The police have circulated a minute description of the “ wanted ” man.
