PSYCHOLOGY.
TO TUI EDITOR. Sir, —Wo are all too well acquainted with the happenings of the last few days to require any enlargement on the rights or wrongs of the unemployed, but two aspects of the distressing business have been missed. First, undue stress Inis been placed upon tho utt- nnccs of irresponsible leaders (sic) of the unemployed, which, if given their proper value, would automatically cancel out. For instance, “ Declare tho ’Varsity team ‘ black.’ ” Certainly, by all moans, if money cannot bo found for tucker, whore on earth is it coming from for football matches? A little common sense would have solved that diffinul y, as with others, and it would have been given the merit it deserved. Second, His Worship the Mayor chooses to stand and deliver. Dunedin is a proud city, proud of its heritage, integrity, and name, and looks to its chief magistrate to uphold tho honour placed upon him. The unemployed meet and pass aimless and senseless resolutions. The train is fired. Mr Black calls together reputable citizens for exactly the same purpose, but with this difference, his utterances carry the weight of the city with them. “He would read tlve lliot Act. Ho would get tho hacking of the community. Superintendent Eccles spoke on similar lines. If necessary he would call on all citizens to assist him.” It makes one sick at heart. Where is the line of demarcation? What is tho difference between tho sun in tho Queen’s Gardens and the mayoral chambers when such sentiments are being _ voiced P What difficulty did the police have in dispersing the mob at tho Queen’s Gardens ? lliot Act ? Oh! tho pity of it! Dunedin, thy skirts arc unhallowed and lone, And dark arc the rocks that encircle thy throne; The dwelling of beings unbodied is there, There are spirits abroad; let the traveller beware.' —I am, etc., Sanity.
