It was explained on behalf of the 'Amateur Rowing Association that much of the criticism which had been levelled against the rowing nominations was unjustified. The selectors had carefully considered the claims of every oarsman, and were satisfied that tho crew selected would uphold the_ reputation of New Zealand rowing. Several well-known rowers had been unable to obtain leave. Every consideration had been given to the weight of the crew and to balance, skill, and strength. Members of the eight would also be able to compete in fours, pairs, and double sculls. After the council, had discussed the matter _ from all angles and had received replies to questions a motion was carried unanimously approving that those nominated should comprise the New Zealand team for the Olympiad. A provision was added that governing bodies other than the Rowing Association contribute at least £SO per man, the rowing body to contribute at least £25 per man, together with a new boat and sculls. , A sub-committee consisting of Messrs H. Amos, H. M'Cormick, H. Patou, and A. C. Kitto was appointed. The adjourned business will be considered at another meeting next Monday. The selection of the manager of the team will be announced shortly.
