PROTESTANT ALLIANCE
April 7 marked the opening of the first juvenile lodge of the society in the dominion by the members of the Triumph Lodge, No. 9. Members who were set up as a committee to instruct the juveniles met in the Kensington Lodge Hall and duly initiated thirty members. The children took a keen interest in the proceedings, which included instruction on ritual and the way they should conduct themselves at lodge meetings. The juveniles then elected their own officers —namely:— Sister Ewart W.M., Bro. J. Ewart D.M., Bro. F. O’Neil secretary, Bro. J. Smith treasurer, Sister L. Packer chaplain, Bro. S. Smith senior elder, Sister N. Duff junior elder, Bro. R. O’Neill outer guard, Bro. W. Ewart inner guard. These officers will be installed on May 5. P.M. Bro, Perrin was elected superintendent of the lodge, and various lady members undertook to make up the regalia, the material being donated by P.M. Bro. J. Robb. Later the adult lodge of Triumph No. 9 was opened in due form by W.M. Bro. O’Neill, assisted by a full staff of officers and a large attendance of members. After lodge business was disposed of a social hour was spent, Bro. R. D. Bauchop and Bro. W. O’Neill being responsible for the programme. W.G.M. Bro. A. Devlin congratulated the members of the Juvenile Committee on their first meeting and proposed a toast to P.M. Bro. G. Perrin, which was duly honoured and responded to. W.G.M. Bro. A. Devlin is leaving on a tour of the dominion, and was asked to convey fraternal greetings from Triumph No. 9 to various lodges in the north. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41, was held in the P.A. Hall, Green Island, W.M. Bro. Jas. Lindsay presiding over a good attendance. P.M. Bro. J. W. Watson, of Christchurch, was welcomed to the meeting. Visitors admitted and welcomed were W.M. Bro. A. S. Barrett and his officers and members of Valley True Blue, No. 11, and P.M. Bro. Jackson, of Triumph, No. 9. At the conclusion of the business the euchre shield match was played, and resulted in a win for Loyal Excelsior Lodge by 14 games to 5. W.M. Bro. Barrett, of No. 11, conveyed the thanks of his lodge for a very pleasant evening.
