YOUNG BIRD SHOW

*. EXCELLENT EXHIBITS LARGE HUMBER OF ENTRIES The 1932 young bird show was opened in thq Victoria Hall to-day. This is the twentieth annual fixture, and it is undoubtedly one of the best shows that has been held. The entries are better than fast year, all classes being well represented, and the judges and officials did their work expeditiously and efficiently. The fancy pigeons made an exceptionally strong class, and the judge (Mr R. Bankshaw) was firmly of opinion that nothing better has been seen in Dunedin'for many years. The exhibitors had evidently gone to a great deal of trouble with their birds, which were well trained and excellently presented. There was a great show of magpies, and the Invercargill exhibitor (Mi- J. R. Gough) is to be complimented on the quality of his exhibits and the way he has shown his birds. His magpie hen took the cup for the best fancy pigeon, and it was an exceptionally good bird. It had a good outlook, and was well shown. It was shown naturally, was a little heavy in the saddle, and should be seen again in the winter shows. It is a credit to the breeder. The tumbler pigeons were a very nice collection, and did the breeders credit. The Nun pigeon was the best that the judge has seen for twenty years in Dunedin. The special prize bird in the boys’ classes was a yell-bred bird. Of the homer pigeons the blue chequered cock class was good, but some of the birds were hardly far enough developed for show purposes. The judge considered that the same class hen was the best in the show. All the birds in the plain blue cock class were well shown, while the winner of the red chequered cock was an outstanding specimen, as also was the first prize pied cock. An exceptionally good bird was the winner of the black chequered cock class, which made a good showing all round. The only pied hen shown was an excellent bird. The cookery exhibits were numerous iand of excellent quality, but they were not judged this morning. The results were as follow: CANARIES. NORWICH. Judge: Mr A. H. Waugh. Plain head, yellow.—A. S.
