CONCESSIONS!

THE ARBITRATION BILL EXCLUSION OF INDUSTRIES CLAUSE DROPPED [Prom Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, March 17. A definite indication was given by Mr Forbes this afternoon that the contentious clause 2 in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, empowering the exclusion by Ordei in Council of specified industries from the operation of industrial awards or agreements, will be dropped. This decision is not surprising, considering the opposition which has been expressed against the principle of the clause both in political circles and throughout the country. It is believed that it is not unlikely that the Government will also make concessions to the objections which have been raised to other proposals in tho Bill. A long sitting is in > prospect when the committee proceedings on the Bill are continued. The debate on the Bill has now proceeded for more than a week of sitting days, and with a view to expediting progress Mr Forbes is asking for urgency to be accorded. This will undoubtedly mean an all-night silting, for stout Labour opposition is anticipated on at least three clauses. The Government is now armed with the closure weapon, but Mr Forbes declares that he intends to use it only as a last means of facilitating work.
