PLUNKET SHIELD FINAL

WELLINGTON MANAGER'S SUMMARY BLUNT'S DISMISSAL AND. DICKINSON'S BOWLING [Special to the ‘ Stak.’] WELLINGTON, February 25. Mr W. A, Aldersley, manager of the Wellington cricket team, had nothing but praise on his return for the way the team was treated in Dunedin. He paid special tribute to the umpiring, which was favourably commented on by both sides. It was considered that the turning point in the game was when Blunt was run out in Otago’s second innings, as Blunt had seemed likely to hold Wellington up. Wellington’s task in the final innings of the match appeared on the face of things a comparatively easy one, but one of the big surprises of the match was sprung by Dickinson, who struck a patch and bowled with exceptional pace. “He bowled faster than I had ever seen him bowl,” remarked Mr Aldersley, “ and there were many others who had not seen him work up so much pace. If he were able to bowl consistently like that he would certainly be a real champion.” The pace of the bowling rather than the state of the wicket brought about Wellington’s collapse, although the wicket was a two-paced one, with the ball coming to the batsmen at no set height.
