GOVERNMENT DEFEAT IN COUNCIL Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright* SYDNEY, February .25. (Received February 25, at 10 a.m.)’ The Government was defeated in the Council on the first of its vital amendments to the Industrial Conciliation - and Arbitration Bill. A motion for the reinsertion in the measure of the principle of a sole commissioner was rejected by 48 vqtes to 38. The Federal Labour Group voted against the Government. The Bill now. provides for, a bench of three judges, as recommended by a select commiteee. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL CASE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright* LONDON, February 24. (Received February 25, at noon.) The Australian Press Association it informed that the Privy Council will hear tho New South Wales Upper House case on the first day of its sittings after tho Easter recess. Mr Willis has instructed the New South Wales legal advisers to oppose the Commonwealth’s application to intervene, which may be heard on February 29.
