THE GISBORNE SITTINGS [Peh United Press Association.! GISBORNE, February 24. In the Supreme Court a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy, was returned on a charge of manslaughter against Adam Te Whetu arising out of a car smash near Tancatua on December 31, when accused’s companion was killed. Mr Justice MacGregor sentenced Te Whetu to four months’ imprisonment. Holding at the conclusion of the case for the (prosecution that the Crown had not proved its case, Mr Justice MacGregor requested the jury to return a verdict of not guilty on a charge of personation under the Electoral Act preferred against Frederick Valentino, veterinary practitioner.
