Morrison, • * * * At the annual meeting of the Otago Law Society the following officers were appointed:—President, Mr G. Cook; vice-president, Mr W. D. ' Stewart; members of council Messrs R. Stout, Allan Holmes, James Smith, F. R. Chapman, G, W. Harvey, John M‘Gregor, and Henry Howorth. « * » • The City Council has commenced the the experiment of holding its sittings in the evening intend of the afternoon, and all the members were present. This augurs well for the success of the new plan, but it remains to be seen how long the full attendance, will last. ■•* • • The cricket match between the English team and a Canterbury eighteen was drawn for want of time. The visitors scored 230 (Barlow 77, Dlyett 59). Canterbury made 100 and 15 for six wickets. Midwinter took nine wickets for 29 runs, and Emmett nine for 38. * * * * The game against _ a Wellington twentv-two also ended in a draw. England,'222 (Ulyctt 43, Shrewsbury 70). Wellington, 80 and 5-1 for ,ten wickets. Poato and Midwinter were the most successful bowlers for the visitors.
