TAKAPUNA MEETING

FINAL GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January 28. 'Beautiful weather prevailed for the final gallops at Ellerslie this for the Takapuna Meeting. The course proper, with poles 30ft out, was available, and most of the fast work was done on this track, while the tan track was al#o in use. The. going on both tracks- was excellent, and several fast gallops were recorded, the .best being by Karangapai, Grand Spirit, and Llanore, on the course proper. Sir Mond and Great Emblem ran six furlongs, running the first three in 40 l-ssec, and the full distance in Imin 20 2-ssec, with little between them at the finish.

Karangapai had the' measure of Royal Gallant at the conclusion of a half-mile run in 49 3-ssec. This was an excellent effort, and Karangapai did his work well. Speedfast, after running the first three furlongs in 38 3-ssec, completed the six in Imin 19 l-sfeec. He could have improved on this time.

Brampton was holding Good Idea at the end of half a mile in 51 3-ssec, tho former working particularly well. Llanoro was timed to run seven furlongs in Imin 30 l-ssec, the final six taking Imin 17 3-ssec. This mare is engaged in the Jockey Club Handicap on Saturday, Escalus, looking in firstrate order, was sent over five furlongs, and, after running the first two in 26sec, finished up in Imin 4 3-ssec. On tho tan. Ruling King was given an easy six furlongs. Grand Spirit was going better than Golden Spahi at the conclusion of a half-mile run in slsec. This is the best effort seen on this track for some time Click Clack was given an easy task running homo over the last three furlongs in 43 2-ssec. The filly is in good order. _ Silene was sent over five furlongs, which he completed in Imin 5 3-ssec, the final half-mile taking 52 2-sseo Tarporley and Dominican trotted round to the half-mile, and came home in 52 l-ssec. There was not much between them at the finish. At Takanini Ganpat was a length in front of High Comedy and Refresher, who were going comfortably over five furlongs in Imin 2sec. Chief Jewel heat Chief Joy over a sftnilar distance in Imin 2 3-ssec.
