MEETING AT MACANDREW BAY
A representative meeting of the unemployed in Macandrew Bay was held last Thursday evening, when members resolved to form themselves into an association with the object of watching over their interests.
A chairman, secretary, and a committee were elected, from which delegates will be appointed to approach the local Unemployment k Committee when occasion arises. It was decided to send delegates to the next meeting of the committee, with the object of endeavouring to secure more work than is at present being supplied. Working hours have been gradually diminishing over the past’ few weeks until at present four-day men are only getting two and a-half days, while the three-day men are receiving only one and a-half days. Last week single men received no work at all.
' It is felt that it is hopeless trying to keep homes going under these conditions, and it* is this state of affairs which is mainly responsible for the forming of the association, j Before the meeting closed a motion of sympathy with the leaders of the recent demonstration in Dunedin in their sentences of imprisonment and with their wives and families was carried.
