In the latter case they must be brief. Miss B. M'Lean will leave shortly for England, to visit her sister, Lady Wilforcl. Dr and Mrs Lennox Douglas will leave at the end of the month for England. Mr and Mrs D’Arcy Haggitt left on Monday for Queenstown. Miss Coreen Browne left on Monday for Queenstown. Miss Laing, of Sydney, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. A. Saunders, St. Clair. Dr C. C. Anderson, Mrs Anderson and family (Invercargill) have taken a house in St. Clair, and will spend about two weeks there. Miss Erin Moffett (Invercargill) is the guest of Mrs John Moffett, St. Clair. Mrs A. R. Falconer and family have gone to their seaside cottage at Warrington for a few weeks. Mr and Mrs Herbert Blsck will leave to-morrow morning for Akaroa. _ Mrs Harold Crow, who paid a short visit to Dunedin to attend her brother’s wedding, returned to Christchurch on Tuesday, The engagement is announced of Alfred L., second son of the late Mr I. Braham, of London and Mrs Braham, “ Sandringham,” 4 Smith street, Dunedin, to Sybil, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Lions, of Sydney. Captain and Mrs A. Rathbone, of Timaru, are visiting Dunedin, and are in residence at St. Clair. Mrs Roland Fulton and family are spending a holiday at Karitane. Mrs G. H. Elliffe and family are at present at Piirakanui. Mrs G. I. Moffett (Invercargill) is the guest of Mrs John Moffett, St. Clair. Miss Gwen Webster, principal of Otago School of Dancing, is the guest of Mrs C. R. Johnston, Mayfair Flats, Wellington., Miss Irene Sanders, of Dunedin, returned on Saturday from a short visit to Lawrence, following her vacation at Timaru. The Misses B. Durward, M. Wither, and K. Moore have returned to Dunedin, after a week’s hiking through the Gatlins district. Messrs C. Simons and L. Connelly have returned after a holiday in Auckland. Miss Rona Wilson has left Dunedin to join the nursing staff of the Tapauui Hospital. Messrs Geo. Dunn and J. Grant, of tho North-east Valley Bowling Club, accompanied by their wives, travelled by car |on Saturday to _ Christchurch to take part in the dominion tournament. Miss Mary Martin, who has just returned from an extended tour abroad, m which she spent six months in London furthering her_ musical studies, toured extensively in England, Scotland, and Ireland. She also attended the Anglo-American Conference of Musicians in Switzerland, and spent a month in Paris before returning to her home in Dunedin. Mrs R. J. Richards (wife of tho newly-appointed head master of Christ’s College, Christchurch) accompanied by her sister. Miss Carter, arrived to-day from England, and are the guests of • Mrs Richards, “ Les Escop,” Woodhaugh. Lady Mackenzie Wood, whose husband, Major Murdo Mackenzie Wood, received a knighthood in the New Year honours, is the fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs Moss Davis, now of London. As Miss Muriel Davis she was well known in Auckland. She left Auckland about twenty years ago and married Sir Mackenzie Wood in 1922. Sir Mackenzie, who has represented Banff, Scotland, in tho House _of Commons for ten years, is a major in the Gordon Highlanders, and served with his regiment in the Great War, being severely wounded.
