'THE OUTSIDER'
* REGENT'S NEXT ATTRACTION Many people to-day condemn or “go to see” a picture on its criticism in the Press, and if New Zealanders follow the opinions of the English Press ‘ The Outsider ’ is assured of a popular and enthusiastic reception when it is shown at the Regent on Friday. Reviewing ‘ The Outsider’ in the London ‘Daily Telegraph,’.the famous film critic, Mr G. A. Atkinson, said: “Here is a Jove story that does veritably come to life, a marvellous thing to say of a talkie. Unless my judgment has gone entirely astray, it seems to me that in one respect at least ‘The Outsider ’ is the greatest work of screen art that I have ever seen. That aspect is the joint performance of Joan Barry and Harold Huth, and as they hold the screen for about two-thirds of the drama, it may be said that their performance constitutes all that matters in the production.” After paying a tribute to Harry Lachman, director of ‘ The Outsider - ’ and to the photography right throughout the film, the London ‘ Evening News’ remarked: “‘The Outsider’ is a film in the first rank, British or otherwise. Its presentation is in many ways an event. It gives us a new screen hero who must be surely destined to screen fame of the highest order. It introduces a lovely heroine,” The London ‘ Morning Post ’ stated:—“‘The Outsider’ has been translated into an excellent film, really one of the best dramas which has come out of British Studios for a long time: The great virtue of ‘ The Outsider ’ is that all the way through one feels that it is real, vital, and dealing with human life.”
