GOLF AT ST. CLAIR
MEN’S TOURNAMENT SEVERAL CLOSE GAMES The wind again hampered golfers who took part in the Dunedin amateur championship, and the Otago junior amateur championship, which were continued on the Corstorphine Links this morning. Under the circumstances, however, there was some very fair golf, and many of the games were of special interest because of an evenness in form. No fewer than three of the eight matches in the first round of the senior competition went beyond the eighteenth green, while two of the rounds were won with a single hole to spare. The sensational round of the morning was that in which. D. H. Butcher beat F. V. Drake after being 5 down with seven holes to play. Butcher’s putting in the later stages of the game was little short of phenomenal. The following are the results of the first round in the Dunedin amateur championship:— W. Clayton beat H. A. Gamble, 2 and 1. m . R. E. Hayward beat L. J. Taylor, 4 and 3. J. Kilpatrick beat J. H. M'Dougall at the twenty-second hole. R. W. Dick beat W. G, Wight, 1 up. N, G. Hay beat L. Lawrence, 1 up.
