THE SHARE MARKET DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. No sales were reported at this mbrning’s call-over. Sellers of Bank of Australasias cased to £8 15s, and sellers were absent. Bank of New Zealands were on the market at £2 5s 6d, without buyers. There was a wider market for Commercials, sellers still asking 16s 9d and buyers easing to 16s. In the shipping section Howard, Smiths were sought for at 6s 6d and ordinary Huddart, Parkers at £1 3s, without a seller of either. Buyers of U.S.S. (preference) were firm at 19s fid, while a seller came on the market at £1 Os 6d. Gear Meats had inquiry at £1 7s, without any selling offer, while the paid-up New 2realand Refrigerating shares had a closer markefc, buyers improving to 11s 3d and sellers easing to 11s 9d. Buyers of Colonial Sugars improved to £4O without attracting sellers. There was an improvement in Mosgiel Woollen shares also, the buying bid being £6 14s 6d, without a seller quoting. An unsupported buyer offered £22 for M'Leod Bros.’ shares. Okaritos remained firm, buyers offering 10s 9d, with sellers demanding 11s. There was a sharp rise in Golden Progress shares, due, no doubt, to the excellent return from the last wash-up. Buyers bid £1 19s this morning, but sellers would not quit under £2 7s. GOLDEN DAWN. A telegram was received in Christchurch on Monday reporting that the directors of Golden Dawn Gold Mining Company had visited the property on Saturday. The battery was working continuously and the cyanide plant would start during the present week. The mill will be kept running through the holidays, and everything was going satisfactorily. ALEXANDER MINES. The result of the Alexander mine’s December clean-up resulted in 400 tons of ore being crushed for 3500 z lldwt of melted gold. The cyanide plant treated 230 tons of sands for 98oz 16dwt of bullion, estimated at £1,738, exclusive of the premium on the sale of gold in London and premium on exchange. OIL BORING. The following report has been received from the secretary of the Motoroa Oil Fields Ltd.: — Motoroa No. 1 well: The damage caused by lire in November has been repaired and the well has been deepened to 2,125 ft, where additional oil and gas were met with. The well is now tubed and production tests are in progress.

RENEWED INTEREST. Advice has now been received that a representative ot one of the largest metallurgical firms in London, which was intimately associated with the gold workings at Broken Hill and on the Rand, is .being sent to New Zealand to conduct investigations, reports an exchange. Another sign of interest in the dominion’s gold resources is contained in the publication, the ‘ Mining World,’ of October 10, which gave prominence to an account of a geological investigation of the gold-bearing cement conglomerate in New Zealand. STOCK EXCHANGE VACATION. The Dunedin Stock Exchange closed for the Christmas-New Year vacation at mid-day to-day, and will not reopen till Monday, January 11, 1932.
