FOUR MAIN CENTRES DUNEDIN IN THE LEAD Although permits issued in Auckland in October. 1931, for new buildings represented £38,660, the value of alterations amounted to only £9,917. In Wellington alterations accounted for £14,577, while new buildings represented only £12,773, states the Abstract of Statistics, dated November 26. In Christchurch alterations amounted to £2,991, and now buildings to £18,846. Dunedin’s October figures were £4,231 for alterations, and £10,620 for now structures. The totals for the ten months ended October show Dunedin to be well ahead of the other main centres, both m alterations and new buildings. In Napier £5,227 accounted for alterations to existing buildings, and £5,461 for new buildings, making a total of £10,688. In Hastings £1,218 was spent on alterations, and £11,568 on new buildings, making a total of £12.786. Tlio detailed figures, which are as follows, include new buildings commenced by Government departments,
