TO-NIGHT'S BROADSIDING THRILLS

Broadsiding thrills will again be provided at the Speedway Royle, South Dunedin, to-night, when the second big programme of the season will be staged. No fewer than seventeen broadsiding events are set down for decision, and the best attraction will bo the Big Four points’ match race, in which the four Aiistralian stars, Tommy Tompkins (Brisbane), Laurie Packer (Adelaide), Frank Elms (Sydney), and Cliff Bysouth (Melbourne) will bo seen in action. The Australians have shown themselves to be daring and spectacular broadsiders, and Tompkins wont close to Squib Burton’s mile record last week. More cinders have been laid on the track this week, and it will occasion no surprise if one of the visitors goes still closer to the record to-night. All have big reputations in their speedways in Australia, and Tompkins in particular is regarded as being one of the finest dirt track riders in all Australia. _ Packer has an international reputation, and Bysouth is the present holder of the Golden Helmet at the Melbourne Exhibition Speedway. Elms, too, is a rider of class, and the Australians will be seen not only in three _ heats from a rolling start, but also in two open handicap events, in which they will be opposed by the best of the local men, including I/ionel Homer, who did so well last week —Peter Lyders, Jim Nesbit, and Jack Young. There will be a local riders’ handicap, and variety will be lent to the programme by the inclusion of three whippet races over hurdles, and a two-railo cycling handicap. The heats of the whippet and cycling events will be held before 8 o’clock, and the finals during the evening. Popular prices are being charged, and another bumper attendance is anticipated.
