ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES. [Special to the ‘ Star.’] AUCKLAND. December 19. The weather conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning, all fast work being done on the outside of the course propei. the poles being about 45ft oir from the rails. The going was excellent and some fair times were recorded, the best efforts being those of Golden Wings, Lack, and Beacon Fin, who worked during the breakfast interval The cup candidates, Taneriri and Peter Jackson, were sent a mile and a quarter in company with Sir Mond and Grand Spirit. _ Tho final round occupied 2miu 7 4-ssec, the last seven furlongs Imin 35 l-ssec, and the half mile 55 2-ssec. Taneriri and Grand Spirit were six lengths in front of the other pair along the back and although Sir Mond and Peter Jackson lessened the gap they failed to get up, Taneriri and Grand Spirit being over a length to the good at the finish. SOUTH AFRICAN CRICKETERS. In the event of the South African cricketers touring New Zealand, the following selectors for the New Zealand team have been appointed;—Messrs N. C. Sneddon (Auckland), L. T. Cobcroft (Wellington), H. B. Whitta (Canterbury), and F. Williams (Otago).— Christchurch Press Association telegram.
