AUSTRALIAN FLOODS

POSITION MUCH IMPROVED WHEAT GROWERS LOSE HEAVILY Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BRISBANE, December 11. (Received December 11, at 10.30 a.m.) The flood position is easing. Train traffic has been resumed on the main southern and western lines. Flooded rivers between Bowen and Prosperpine caused disorganisation of the railway services between Rockhampton and Townsville. Settlers in parts of the Augathella district are isolated, and are on short rations. Queensland ’ wheat-growers have lost at least £150,000 as a result of the floods and rain, according to Mr Phelps (manager of the State Wheat Board). Fears of floods in the northern inland rivers of New South Wales have abated considerably, and serious flooding is now unlikely. A Hindoo was drowned while crossing a swollen creek at Ballina.
