HIBERNIAN CLUB
Tlio closing function of the year of the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club was held on Monday evening, when the elubrooms were crowded by members and their friends. The proceedings took the form of a social gathering, which proved successful and entertaining. Tables were laid with light refreshments, and a formal toast list was honoured. Mr J. P. Dolan (vice-president) presided during the greater portion of the evening; the president (Mr A. Cillicit), who had been unavoidably delayed, subsequently taking the chair and conducting the programme till its close. Amongst those present were Dev. Father Hanrahan (chaplain). Rev. Brothers O’Connor and O'Sullivan. Apologies for absence were received from His Lordship the Bishop and Rev. Father Collins (Adm,). After extending a cordial welcome to those assembled, Air Dolan proposed the loyal toast; then followed those of “ The Hierarchy and Clergy,” proposed by Air G. O’Connell and responded to by Rev. Father Hanrahan; 11 The Club,” Air B. A. Quclch, Mr J. P. Dolan; ‘‘Christian Brothers’ High School,” Mr R. A. King, Rev. Brother O’Connor; 11 H.A.C.B. Society,” Air J, P. AVard, Mr F. G. Brown; “Sister Clubs,” Air AV. APAlevey, Ah- F. Hall; “ The Performers and the Press,” proposed by Mr A. Gillick and responded to by Air J. APDonald. Enjoyable musical and elocutionary items, were contributed by Air J. Merchant (piano solo), Alessrs R. A. King, J. APDonald, W. Hogan, AV. Toner, and -1. Driscoll (songs), Alessrs J. P. AAhml and G. O’Connell (recitations), Alessrs Toner and Driscoll (vocal duet), Air J. Kennedy (humorous stories), and Mr Toner (vcntriloquial act). ALirious speakers remarked on the exceptionally successful year the club had experienced, its general activities, the success achieved by individual members, and the bright prospects lor continued success.
