THE AIR MAIL

6.872 LETTERS ON TWO FLIGHTS [Per. United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 24. Letters for delivery in New Zealand numbering at least 3,000 were carried on the Invercargill-Auckland air mail service which was inaugurated recently. In addition the mail from Auckland to Wellington on the following day comprised seventy-one article, some of which were for despatch by tho Aus-tralia.-England service. The Post Office figures show that a total of 6,872 articles were carried by the two New Zealand services. The mail for the Austrnlia-England service, which left New Zealand, totalled 3,173 letters, and this subtracted from the number carried in New Zealand ' leaves tho number of letters for inland delivery at 3,701, but as a certain proportion of the mail which left New Zealand was not carried on the local service, it would seem that about 4,000 letters would comprise the interior portion of the two flight. Details of the number of letters posted at each “ port of call ” on the two trips are : Invercargill-Auckland flight, November 12—Invercargill 1,495, Dunedin 1,020, Christchurch 1,324. Blenheim 258, Wellington 1,258, Palmerston North 490 New Plymouth 356; total 6,201. ' Auckland-Wellington flight, November 23 —Auckland 549, New Plymouth 9, Wanganui 113; total 671. Grand total, 6,872.
