A MEAT SAFE

Tf an empty wooden box is nob available one may be bought at the grocer’s for a few pence. Get one about IGin scuare, as .it will do nicely for ordinary purposes; if it has a lid so much tho better. The lid forms the door of tho safe. On each of the four sides of tho bos mark a square, leaving a good margin of wood. Cut or saw out the squares of wood. This may bo done with a small hand saw. Buy a sheet of perforated zinc at the ironmonger’s, have it cut the right size, and tack a piece over each opening. Secure tho door on by two small hinges, and hammer a nail with a brass head in tho door to act as a handle. Instead of zinc very strong butter muslin may ho used. It may be attached with drawing pins. It is a good plan to stain the wood of the safe; this may be done cheaply and easily with Condy’s fluid and water, which is a splendid disinfectant as well. Legs may be made by taking four large reels and nailing them on tho four corners. Inside the safe hooks should bo screwed so that meat may ho hung. A largo hook should then be screwed on the top of tbo outside, so that the safe may bo suspended.
