INCITING TO MUTINY
ANOTHER CONVICTION ( press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.' LONDON, November 23. ‘ (Received November 24, at 11 a.m.) As a sequel to the ‘ Daily Worker ’ prosecution, Frank .Paterson, twentysix years of age, ( was ' convicted at the Old Bailey of inciting to mytiny and was sentenced ,to two years’ hard labour. ■ . , ~ Paterson lied to Germany when the. police inquiries began, and was arrested .upon his return. [Following a visit of Scotland Yard officials to the offices of the Communist newspaper, 1 Daily Worker, Williani Thomas . Wilkinson, printer, was charged at Bow street with inciting to mutiny, and was remanded to October 2. The magistrate remarked that prima facie it .was a very serious case. He granted bail on Wilkinson undertaking that nothing would meanwhile • appear in the ‘ Daily Worker ’ ivith icferene'e to armed' forces of the Crown. He was later charged and committed for trial at Bow street with conspmng with others responsible for the ‘ Daily Worker,’ not only to break a section of the Act, but also to incite others to do likewise. Sir Percival 1 Clarke, who ; conducted, the prosecution,'quoted from the ‘Daily Worker’; “Build up a united front of workers, soldiers, sailors, and members of the Air Force. ’ The ‘ Daily Worker ’ added: “ Now, reader, what about handing this copy to a soldier, sailor, or air man?” Sir ■ percival Clarke'contended that that was not only incitement to His Majesty’s forces to mutiny, but incitement to ■ others to act similarly;. Wilkinson was convicted of endeavouring to stir up mutiny, and found .not guilty of conspiring with others associated with the ‘ Daily Worker.’ Mr Justice Hawke said:. “I am told you are doing this for money. In view of your age — sixty-eight—you will bo - sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment in the second division.”]
