CANDIDATES NOMINATED

Coalition Party candidates number sixty-nine; Labour, including Independent Labour, fifty-seven; Independent Coalition, including Independent Reform, Independent United, and Liberal, twenty-nine; Independent, twenty-five; Country Party, twenty-five; Communist) two; Women’s Party, one. This election four members will be returned unopposed as against none in 1928; there will be forty straight-out contests as against twenty-six in 1928; twenty-five three-cornered contests as against forty in 1928; five four-cornered contests as against ten; and two fivecornered as against none in 1928. Altogether the number of straightout contests has been increased 50 per cent., while tbree-comered contests show a reduction almost similar. Auckland East and Eden are the electorates where five candidates will be fighting out the issue. This year there are two women candidates—Miss Ellen Melville for Auckland East and Mrs E. R. M'Combs for Christchurch North—ns against five in ,1928. Tho four candidates to ho returned unopposed are the Hon. J. 6. Cobbe (Oroua), the Hon. E. A. Ransom (Pabiatua), and Messrs W. J. Broadfoot (Waitomo) and K, S. Williams (Bay of Plenty). ' .
