William Henry Doyco. aged twentythree. was charged at Wellington with manslaughter by striking Percy William Child. The deceased, a carrier Inoccupation, formerly a resident of Dunedin, was found unconscious outside the Royal Tiger Hotel on October 17, and died in the hospital three days later after an operation, without recovering consciousness. The medical witnesses stated that the deceased had concussion and superficial facial injuries, consistent with a blow from a fist and a fall on the pavement The deceased smelt strongly of drink. Evidence was given by several men who said they saw the blow struck. Some thought Child was acting qus peace-maker in a dispute. Detective Haylmrst said the accused had made a statement in which ho said ho struck one blow, but it was not a heavy one. The coroner found that death was the result of injuries received in consequence of a blow and a fall. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
