Forbes) has received tho following letter from tho Governor-General (Lord Blodisloe): — “In view of the present _ serious financial position of the dominion-—a position more critical than was anticipated six months ago—l have decided to waive another portion of flic salary and allowances grilled to mo as Gov-ernor-General by the Government, making a total sum so relinquished of £1,500 a year, or one-fifth of the total emoluments of tho office. Sucli waiver is to take effect as from 1 next, to continue as long as tlie financial crisis justifies, and to he purely personal to myself and not in any way applicable to my successor. 1 feel that 1 cannot confidently appeal to others to display a full measure of self-sacrifice according to their means during the present emergency unless 1 do tlie same myself. Although this reduction in my official emoluments will necessarily involve some further appreciable inroad upon such private resources as Her Excellencies and 1, possess 1. am able nevertheless to contemplate without anxiety that by tlie continued exercise of rigid economy the traditional requirements of my office can lie maintained at an adequate standard.” fn handing tho letter to_ tlie Press for publication tho Prime Minister said ho desired to express the gratitude oi himself and his colleagues for tlie very practical and generous action of His Excellency in this time of serious economic stress. “ 1 feel certain,” Mr Forbes said, “ that tlie load given by tho GovornorGoneral will lie very warmly appreciated throughout til dominion.”
