A MUSICAL TREAT
A chamber concert, modelled upon the lines of those given in the world’s great art centres is announced for Wednesday* October 7. That this should give great satisfaction to all music lovers goes without saying. Such programmes are all too rare and are of inch cultural value to our city. It is a matter for sincere congratulation that we possess artists of our own who enjoy reputations for sincerity and high ideals in their profession in an age which has perhaps slipped somewhat musically, and who are highly qualified to present such outstanding musical works with authority and refinement. This programme is certainly rich in variety and most excellently balanced. Mr Max Scherek will be %vith Mrs E. T. Porter (a fine violinist who is new to a Dunedin audience) in sonatas by Beethoven, Delius, and Lekew, while Mr G* W. Johnstone, with Miss Rena Thomson at the piano, will present two groups of beautiful songs, ono foreign: and the other modern English. Such music should make a wide appeal.
