Tho Hon. W. B. Taverner left fo£ Wellington by the express to-day. Mr W. A. -Bodkin, M.P., was a passenger for Wellington by to-day’s tram.
The Rev. J. A. Lusk came from Invercargill by train to-day. Mr R. A. Anderson passed through Dunedin, this morning, on his way from Invercargill to Wellington. Mr W. A. Marshall, stationmaster at Timaru, has been to Dunedin on leave, and went homo to-day. Mr L. J. Stevens started this morning his return journey from Dunedin to Auckland.
M. Ragietly, representing a French trading firm, left Dunedin this morning for Auckland, thence to Hongkong, Mr 11. B. Tennent, of the Agricultural Department, went to Oamaru by train to-day. Mr Walter J. Beasley, representative for Australia and New Zealand, on the Poona and Indian Village Mission, left this morning for Auckland, and is going back to Melbourne. At last night’s meeting of the Otago Rugby Football League the chairman (Mr T. M. Gillies) mentioned that tho treasurer (Mr H. Divers) was much improved in health, and would shortly be leaving to spend some time in the north.
A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that 3lr J. _D. Holmes, consulting engineer, < Wellington, has been appointed resident engineer to the Napier Harbour BoardMr G. 6. Smith, of the Audit Department at Apia, is _ a passenger by the Maui Pomare, which arrived here yesterday. Ho is proceeding to Wellington by the vessel. At last night’s meeting of tho Royal Dunedin Male Choir Mr C. A. Martin was made the recipient of a case of binoculars. Mr James Haig, in making the presentation, referred to the high esteem in which Mr Martin is held by the members, and assured him that he carries with him their best wishes on his sojourn abroad. Sir Martin acknowledged the gift. Mr E. B. Peck, who has been attached to the Treasury Department at Apia, is a passenger by the Maui Pomare for Wellington. Last night’s .meeting of the Northend Boating Club passed a motion of sympathy with one of its members,_ Mr F. W. Eggers, in the loss of his little daughter, who was drowned in tho Tomahawk Lagoon four weeks ago.. - The North-end Boating Club last evening expressed its sympathy 1 with Mr H. Divers in his illness, and expressed the hope that he would speedily recover. The guest list at the Excelsior Hotel includes Mr H. Montague (Wellington), Messrs S. Maddren and F. BHale (Christchurch), Mrs N. K. Cox (Timaru), Mr D. G. Jardine (Queenstown), and Mr A. Chisholm (Otautau). New visitors to the City Hotel include Sir and Mrs W. D. and Miss Bruce (Gisborne), Messrs H. Newton, C. S. Speight, and R. P. Nottingham (Christchurch), and Sir J. Lister (Timaru). .
